Ken Henderson's "The Guru's Guide to Transact SQL"
- You just can't find a better book on SQL Server. This was book could've been written in 1979 but it wouldn't matter; even when SQL Server 2010 (or whatever) comes out, it will still be relevant. A classic!
Miscellaneous Bits & Pieces:
Badly fragmented disks can decrease input/output (IO) throughput by more than 50%
Keyboard Shortcut for Query Analyzer: CTRL+R hides/displays the results pane
Security Tip: Be very wary of assigning logins to be members of any of the fixed server roles. The server roles in SQL Server 7.0 and 2000 have a few "holes": did you know that any member of a server role can indescriminately make other logins members of that same role? Another gotcha: the Database Creators role allows its members to drop any database!
